Do You Want To Be Right More Than You Want To Be Successful?

Here’s a question I wish someone would’ve asked me at the beginning of my copywriting journey.

“Do you want to be right more than you want to be successful?”

This one question would’ve saved me from making painful business mistakes I was just too much of a NOOB to anticipate…

Most people will tell you they want success but that’s FALSE.

9/10 people would much rather be RIGHT.

How do I know?

Because I made the same mistake.

I once ignored the advice of entrepreneurs who were 10 steps ahead of me in business…

I basically shrugged at the advice of two 7-figure entrepreneurs.

What kind of advice?

Stuff like “document your business processes”… “get the business out of your head”… “templatize everything”

Really great advice thinking back on it except I was too bullheaded to listen.

Nowadays I know why I ignored my 7-figure entrepreneur clients…

I wanted to be right. (Subconsciously)

I wanted to SKIP all the boring parts of building a business and jump right into the big leagues… Swimming with the sharks… And drinking with the big dogs…

SO when I lost my biggest retainer client…

Then found out about my daughter was a still the next day…

Something inside me snapped.

I sunk into an empty void for months and I dragged my business and my girlfriend down with me. Into the depths.

My lack of income forced her to get a job to support our household. And not being able to provide for her made me feel like a sorry excuse for a man.

That’s still too painful to talk about, back to business.

After getting hit with these two emotional bombs one right after another, I felt lost in my business.

Imagine sitting at your computer desk for 6-12 hours a day and seemingly doing everything you can but having nothing to show for it…

Months went by with a few $1,000 and $2,000 gigs sprinkled in here and there…

But nothing like what I had before…

Days were starting to feel grim and with each passing day I was getting brutalized by my biggest critic… Me.

During those moments I turned to a business coach.

Cost me $7,900 to hire that coach and I took out a $10,000 personal loan so I could afford him.

To be clear… my coach NEVER asked me to take out a loan.

I applied for the loan days before our call because I was determined to sign up with him.No matter what.

Here’s the funny side then I’ll wrap it up…

If you started checking out I need you to check back in while I drive the point home…

Inside I was panicking, scared, and lost – that’s why I hired my business coach.

I was searching for someone to give me the roadmap I needed to build my copywriting business back to where it was.

It’s like I forgot everything I did to get this far…

But I wouldn’t have been lost if I followed the advice my $7-figure buddies gave me 2.5 years ago…

“document your business processes”… “get the business out of your head”… “templatize everything”

Instead, I did it my way and kept it all in my mind.

But when I lost 80% of my income… Then I lost Dakota Marie Coleman…

I lost my mind as well.

So my business took a nose dive that dragged my girlfriend along with it.

I’m not telling you this so you can sorry for me.

Take this as a cautionary tale when someone ahead of you gives you solid advice implement it right away…

If you feel resistant to do so, just ask yourself…

“Do you want to be right more than you want to be successful?”

Anywho… that’s all for today.

Thank you for reading.
